The novel 4321 by celebrated American writer Paul Auster has topped book sales the Dutch capital Amsterdam and Belgian capital Brussels in the first two weeks of September, after the release of the Dutch translation of the novel by in Amsterdam, in August.

The 866-page novel, first published in English earlier this year, is acknowledged as being Auster’s most accomplished novel to date. In the Dutch version, the novel runs to more than 1,000 pages. The book was released after Auster published a number of autobiographies and memoirs, most notably Winter Journal, The Invention of Solitude and Hand to Mouth.

With its personal details and unique moments from Auster’s own life experience, 4321 provides an even more personal insight than his previous work. The author was recently shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, the world’s most prestigious English-language literary award. It is his first novel in seven years and the Arabic translation is expected to be released in 2018.
