A new bookstore recently inaugurated in Hangzhou, China’s southern terminus and the capital of Zhejiang province, sells just two book titles at once. In an attempt to promote literature in an innovative fashion, the outlet replaces the two titles it sells every two weeks. This unique concept aims to attract specific readers and encourage them to buy certain popular genres.
The 30-square metre bookstore also displays fruit and vegetables alongside the books as a symbolic representation portraying books as a spiritual nutrition for readers. The shop also boasts open spaces to promote a calm and relaxing ambience within which people can read.
The owner of the bookstore takes on the role of a sales person and a waiter, serving hot and cold drinks and snacks to customers. He was inspired in his venture by a renowned bookstore in Tokyo, which similarly sells only one book title each week.
