More than 1,400 activities at Sharjah International Book Fair Attract 650,000 visitors during First Four Days

1,681 publishing houses from 60 countries are participating at SIBF 2016

The 35th edition of Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) is pulling in the crowds at Expo Centre Sharjah. Themed ‘Read More,’ SIBF 2016 continues until November 12 and is featuring the participation of 1,681 publishers from 60 countries.

More than 650,000 people visited SIBF 2016 in its first four days – a record number in the fair’s 35-year history. Data indicates that the current edition of the event, which concludes on Saturday, will break the record for the overall number of visitors at a single edition, surpassing last year’s SIBF which attracted one million visitors over its 11 days.

SIBF 2016 is featuring an eclectic line-up of more than 1,417 activities with 235 specially invited guests. Its Cultural Activities programme comprises 167 events with 121 guests from 29 countries, while its Cultural Café encompasses 33 activities – including 16 poetry evenings – with 39 guests from 11 countries. The fair’s ‘Book Signing Corner’ is hosting approximately 200 writers and poets who are signing their latest publications for visitors.
