British author Paula Hawkins was at a financial crossroads in her life and was occasionally forced to borrow money from her father. Within five years she had sold a million copies of her novel ‘The Girl on the Train’ and witnessed her story turn into a blockbuster movie.
Released in 2015, the novel was a UK number one bestseller and broke sales records around the world. A year later, film director Tate Taylor turned the novel into a Hollywood hit that carried Hawkins into the list of the world’s richest authors after selling more than 20 million copies of her novel.
UK news sources revealed that Hawkins’s earnings exceed USD 15 million and the company she founded to market her books earns as much as USD 50,000 daily from selling movie copyrights of her works. She has become one of the most powerful British novelists in the last decade.
