The Egyptian Publishers Association recently organised a meeting with several officials from the Amazon online bookstore to discuss a range of issues that concern Egyptian publishers about the marketing and publicity of their books to readers around the world, with a focus on eBbooks.
The move comes in view of Amazon’s interest in Egypt’s and the Arab world’s markets to meet its users’ needs of print and electronic books in different languages.
During the meeting organised by the Professional Development Committee at the association’s headquarters in Cairo, Amazon showcased the privileges and facilities they will offer Egyptian publishers who will market their publications via Amazon’s eBooks site.
The Professional Development Committee is chaired by Sherif Baker, Secretary General of the Egyptian Publishers Association.
Amazon will offer full legal protection to the intellectual property and copyrights of publishers they represent online, in addition to comprehensive technical support for converting books into electronic formats, offering browsing compatibility on smart devices, hardware and software programs. These developments suggested by Amazon have been warmly welcomed by the Egyptian publishing community.
