The number of printed books owned by Turkish citizens increased by 8.4 in 2016, compared to 8 books in 2015, indicating the continued growth in the publishing market, despite the falling currency exchange rate in Q4 2016 and rising book prices.
Metin Celal Zinni Oglo, Chairman of the Turkish Publishers Association, said Turkish publishing houses published 667 million copies in Turkish and other languages during 2016, compared to roughly 621 million books in 2015, an increase of approximately 7.8%.
Oglo claims that Turkey is currently ranked eleventh globally in the book industry, according to statistics released by the International Publishers Association, making it one of the most influential countries in the publishing industry, although most printed books in Turkey are mostly in Turkish, along with Kurdish and English.
