This post is also available in: العربية

Beirut International Arab Book Fair, the oldest book fair in the Arab world, is celebrating its diamond jubilee anniversary. To commemorate sixty years of devoted service to Arabic literature and its publishers, 180 Lebanese publishing houses, 75 Arab and international publishers, four Lebanese universities and many other Arab and international organisations are taking part in the event at the Beirut International Exhibition and Leisure Centre.

The fair is hosting dozens of activities to increase the roles of books in everyday life. It highlights the fair’s long history in the world of culture and knowledge as well as its role in creating hundreds of Lebanese and Arab authors.

This year’s edition of the fair features a large art Exhibition for professional artists and a charity event to honour Saint Jude’s Children’s Cancer Centre in Beirut. Other activities include seminars, poetry evenings, workshops and a host of book signings which have become one of the fair’s signature events.
