Further strengthening its support towards authors and publishers, the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information has recently approved the printing and distribution of 14,881 books, in addition to the registration of 4,691 e-books, via its new electronic scanning service.

Around 390 publishing houses from within and beyond KSA have applied for approval. The ministry also launched an automated linking service with the King Fahad National Library to facilitate the procedures of obtaining International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs) for books to which a print permit is already issued.
